Amina's Story

Two days ago I was out in the village visiting one of our sponsor families & noticed this little girl, Amina, sitting in the doorway of the room next door.

I asked her how old she was & she told me 12. I asked where her mom & dad were, she said her mom left years ago and the dad comes home at midnight and leaves again before sunrise. She stays home alone all day. I asked if she’s ever been to school & she said no because she can’t walk. I asked what she does all day, she said she cooks, cleans and does laundry. 12 years old & never leaves the house.

Her one foot was wrapped & obviously bent - I had no idea the size of the wound underneath until today. The other foot had a couple of small wounds. Unfortunately when we found her she was siting in her own urine. I thought maybe she was paralyzed but didn’t know for sure. Her neighbours told her she had leprosy. Others from her village told her she had cancer. She had never been to the doctors to get any of it checked out.

I took her to an Orthopedic doctor today. Sweet Amina has spina bifida (a birth defect which cannot be cured) as well as a club foot (also a birth defect, but can be cured to some degree with surgery). The big wound on her foot has been there for over 2 years. She stood in fire but couldn’t feel it because she’s numb from the waist down. The burn wasn’t treated back then & has just rotten to this point.

Onto the good news. She can have surgery to correct her foot and put it into a straight position. Once it’s in a straight position and the wound is healed, she will be able to wear a walking boot & with crutches, be able to WALK to school!

Sweet Amina had surgery today to put her foot in a straight position. The surgery was successful & we are thanking God!

We were able to raise the $1,250 needed within only 36 hours & are so grateful to all who contributed so generously.

It will be a long recovery, with between 5-10 days in hospital, & then back to the hospital every 3 days for 2 months.

Our prayer for Amina is that through this situation, she would come to know just how much her Heavenly Father loves her, cares for her and will provide for her needs. John 14:18 - “I will not leave you as an orphan without comfort, I will come to you & be with you always.” This is God’s promise to Amina!

We have some beautiful news.

Do you remember the little girl named Amina who had the huge wound on her foot, spina bifida and a club foot, who underwent surgery a few months ago through Revive?

She is recovering well, her foot is straight & the wound is closed — but that’s not even the best news of all.

During Amina’s recovery, she lived with one of our staff members in the village & was able to attend church services for the first time. She learned about the Lord - His great love for her & all He gave for her salvation, and Amina made the decision to give her life to Jesus.

Amina was so serious about her decision that she decided to legally change her name from Amina (her parents are both Muslim and gave her a Muslim name) to ‘Dorcas Blessing’.

We are praising God for reaching out to her. Oh, how He loves her!
